Abbot Hall is one of Britain’s finest small galleries and a wonderful place in which to see and enjoy exquisite art in the elegantly proportioned rooms of a grade 1 listed Georgian building.
As well as important British art collection which includes work by Ruskin, Turner, Romney, Scwitters, Ben Nicholson and Lucian Freud, there is an acclaimed and stimulating programme of high quality contemporary and historical exhibitions running throughout the year.

Set in delightful 18th century gardens in the heart of Kendal, the Brewery has something for everyone - from the latest film releases to theatre, music, comedy, dance and literature events plus free art exhibitions.You're most welcome to come in to look around and find out what events are on during your stay in the Lake District. Founded in 1796, Kendal Museum is one of the oldest museums in the country. Collections include local archaeology, history, geology and a natural history collection from around the globe. The archeology displays tell the story of man in Cumbria from prehistoric times to the present with local prehistoric, Roman and Viking objects. Also on display is a collection of original drawings and items belonging to the author, fell walker and one time honorary curator, Alfred Wainwright.

Levens Hall is an Elizabethan mansion, home to the Bagot family. The hall houses one of the earliest English patchworks, which dates back to 1708, as well as beautifully embossed Cordova leather wall coverings. The hall also features fine paneling plasterwork and Jacobean furniture. The hall’s world famous topiary garden was designed and constructed in 1694. Please note that there is no admission charge for the gift shop, tearoom and plant centre.

Explore the trail around this organic dairy farm, then browse in the 18th century barn for local and regional speciality foods. There are two galleries of gifts and crafts and a tea room where you can watch the cows being milked around 3.45pm.

The Museum of Lakeland Life is a popular family attraction with a Victorian street scene, farmhouse, rooms, workshops and displays of locally made arts and crafts, movement furniture and fabrics.
Come and see how our Cumbrian ancestors worked, lived and entertained themselves in the changing social climate of the past 200 years. There are rooms dedicated to the authors Arthur Ransome and John Cunliffe (creator of Postman Pat) as well as many children’s activities, workshops and craft demonstrations.
12th Century Parish Church

Visitors to this church are struck by its size and the lightness of the interior. This lightness is due to the unusual construction of 5 aisles, separated by columns and allowing generous window area. The central aisle is 800 years old and the other aisles have been added over the centuries so that, in its heyday, a congregation of 1100 was regularly accommodated. The church is only three feet less wide than York Minster!

One of the largest community textile projects in the world, made in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry, by 4,000 men, women and children from 15 countries. This unique series of 77 panels of embroidery details the history and ideals of a world-renowned society, which began in Cumbria in the mid 17th century. Sizergh Castle and Garden

Set in wonderful grounds with walks around the estate, this house has been lived in by the Strickland family for over 760 years. Learn about the Elizabethan carvings and contents of the castle, then explore the stunning garden including the renowned limestone rock garden.
