Parks and Public Spaces ProgrammeThe Town Council has been directly or indirectly involved in a number of projects that enhance the town to the benefit of the people and local businesses. Improvements works to Abbot Hall Park, Kendal
Kendal Town Council has been working with its appointed landscape architects, Woolerton Dodwell Associates and park owners South Lakeland District Council to create a new look for Abbot Hall Park. The aim is to support greater biodiversity, raise horticultural standards and make the park a more comfortable place to visit. The park was described by Britain in Bloom judges as “somewhat tired” in 2010 and the improvements will help make it more vibrant, interesting and colourful. The works form part of a wider three year programme to improve parks and open spaces in Kendal and the Council have funds earmarked specifically for this project.
Cllr Tom Clare, Chair of the Environment & Highways Committee commented that "the suggested improvements" follow comments made by the judges of Britain in Bloom about the need to improve the appearance of our parks and open spaces but we also see them as helping to make Kendal a better place to live and visit.
