Administration costs cover staff salaries, rental of premises, stationery, insurance, audit and the cost of local elections.
The Civic heading includes allowances to cover expenses incurred by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor during their term of office. It also covers the cost of Civic Occasions held during the course of the year and a relatively small allowance for Twinning expenses.
The Town Council support for the Arts includes Kendal Museum as well as the restoration and exhibition of paintings owned by the Town Council.
Each year the Town Council makes a significant number of grants to clubs, associations and charities which operate within the boundary of the town. In 2006/07 grants of over £38,000 were made to such organisation whose activities are of benefit to Kendal residents. For more details regarding grants and how to apply, click onto the Grants page. Allotment costs relate to the management and maintenance of the 400 or so plots across 17 sites in Kendal.
Environment expenditure covers matters such as; Kendal in Bloom, Christmas Lights, and Highways.
The Non-Recurrent Development money enables the Council to provide one-off support to various projects. Some examples of where we have been able to help financially are;
the canal, contribute towards the purchase of Castle Street Centre, contribute towards the cost of the Regeneration Action Group for Kendal. New Christmas Lights and new Floral Displays for the Town’s entry into Britain in Bloom would be financed from this budget.
