Pictures

Until 2003 one of the town's great legacies. its Pictures Collection lay concealed from public gaze in the Town Hall Picture Store.  Since then, however, an enthusiastic Town Council led Working Group hs embarked on a sizeable programme of cataloguing and refurbishing well over 100 pictures.  As a result, it has recently been possible to mount four exhibitions.  Two of these exhibitions have concentrated on the portraits of George Romney and on the works owed by Beatrix Potter which were bequeathed to Kendal Borough Council some 60 years ago.  The other two exhibitions took as their theme Old Kendal and Lakes and Landscapes.  Brochures of all four exhibitions may be purchased via the Town Council office.
