Before the ceremony, a presentation slide show of photographs of Kendal's Spring and Summer planting was shown including the 1000's of spring bulb daffodils and crocus planted along Kendal's road sides, parks and open spaces. There were photographs of the beautiful floral planters and hanging baskets that have been planted up around the town.

The Summer School Challenge theme for this year was Blooming Olympics. Four local primary schools entered the challenge and invited the Mayor of Kendal, Cllr John Willsahw and Deputy Mayor Cllr Sylvia Emmott to visit their school gardens.  The winning school was Heron Hill School.

Following the ceremony, refreshments and a light buffet were served allowing an opportunity for fellow gardeners the chance to chat and look at the photographic display boards.
