Prizes and certificates were presented to the winners and runners up at the Kendal in Bloom Awards evening held at Kendal Town Hall Assembly Room.  Before the ceremony, the audience watched a  slide show of photographs of Kendal's Spring and Summer planting including the 1000's of spring bulb daffodils and crocus planted along Kendal's road sides, parks and open spaces.  There were photos of the beautiful floral planters and hanging baskets that have been planted up with begonias, geraniums and trailing lobeila.  Many of the gardens entered for this years competition were also included in the slide show as well as the Summer School Challenge where 6 local primary schools entered the Incredible Edible Challenge, growing fruit and vegtables at their schools.

The winners and runners up from each category were congratulated by the Mayor of Kendal, Cllr John Veevers. Following the ceremony, refreshments and light buffet were served allowing an opportunity for fellow gardeners the chance to chat and look at the photographic display boards. mr & mrs antcliffe

Kendal in Bloom would not be possible without the support and sponsorship of local businesses for the town's planters and baskets.  It is with their help that the Kendal floral displays look wonderful throughout the year and makes Kendal an even more attractive place to work, live and visit.  Many thanks to

pink-flower-bannerIn 1999 the Town Council reinstated its Kendal in Bloom competitions and they have grown year on year in terms of the number of competitors who have been attracted to enter.   2006 was a particularly memorable year with Kendal being awarded first place in the Cumbria in Bloom competition for large towns and in 2007, 2008 and 2009 we won a Silver Award for Best Large Town/Small City in Britain in Bloom.
