Kendal’s New Mayor
Kendal Town Council held the Annual General Meeting and Mayor Making Ceremony on the 18th May at Kendal Town Hall.
200 guests enjoyed the historic event which was followed by a buffet reception held in the Council Chamber and Bindloss room. A wide range of guests including the High Sheffif of Cumbria, local dignitaries, charity representatives, local community groups and voluntary organisations attended.
Cllr Giles Archibald praised Cllr Stephen Coleman, the outgoing Mayor, for his commitment and achievements. His fundraising efforts for Manor House and Christians Against Poverty were particularly highlighted considering his achievement of raising £4,330.
Cllr Clare Feeney Johnson nominated Cllr Andy Blackman as Kendal’s new Mayor. As a former head teacher of Milnthorpe Primary School, Councillor Blackman is passionate about Kendal and the family life it offers. His commitment to local people is reflected in the charities he’s chosen to support, Kendal’s Family Drop in Centre and Kendal’s Dementia Alliance.
The Mayor of Kendal’s first civic event of 2017 will be the Civic Mayor’s Sunday on 2nd July. Councillor Blackman has helped to organise Kendal’s first Walking Festival which takes place on the 2nd – 4th of June.
