Remembrance Sunday & Armistice
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which ended World War 1. In addition, Remembrance Day and Sunday both fall on the same day.
To mark this occasion Kendal Town Council and the Kendal branch of the Royal British Legion have decided to alter the arrangements for this year. We believe it is appropriate to mark this occasion by having the wreath laying, silence at 11am and service all at the War Memorial in Market Place. In addition, it enables us to also lay wreaths beforehand at the K Shoes War Memorial and Romney Gardens War Memorial. As a result, this year there will not be a parade or morning service at Kendal Parish Church.
The programme for Sunday 11th November is as follows:
9:00am – Wreath laying at K Shoes war memorial
9:30am – Wreath laying at Romney Gardens war memorial
10:15am – Muster to start thereafter the service and wreath laying at the War Memorial, Market Place
11:00am – Last Post and 2-minute silence
11:20am – The event is expected to finish.
Burneside Brass Band will be playing in Market Place from 10am.
There will be a further service at the Parish Church at 6.00pm on Remembrance Sunday to mark the centenary of the Armistice. This will include the Town Crier giving a special proclamation and the ringing of the church bells as part of the Battle’s Over National Tribute. It will also include the laying of special Thank You wreaths and a field of Remembrance poppy crosses.
