Kendal in Bloom
Each year, thousands of blooms are carefully arranged in planters, hanging baskets and displays, transforming Kendal into a floral showcase throughout the summer and winter months.
We are proud to deliver the annual planting in line with one of the key priorities within our council plan – to develop and enhance the public realm.
It is more than just decoration – it’s a celebration of community pride. We are grateful to those partners and volunteers who help us deliver the planting and who contribute to ‘Kendal in Bloom’ through displays of their own.
Composting
We have ambitions to re-use all our green waste within our own operations and ensure that the flowers continue to add value after they bloom. At the end of the season, the flowers are composted, and this compost is then used in future planting.
We also compost the green waste from our allotment sites. We now only use our own compost in all the planting across town.
Cumbria in Bloom
Cumbria in Bloom encourages individuals, groups and organisations throughout Cumbria to take part in competitions that enhance local spaces, through floral displays, thoughtful landscaping and eco-friendly initiatives.
During the summer, expert judges visit projects which are showcases during an award ceremony later in the year.
We’re very proud to have won Gold and Silver Gilt on several occasions.
We haven’t entered the competition since 2023, whilst the crucial flood defence works are completed through the town.
You can still enter the competition with your own project through the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category.
Kirkland in Bloom
As part of our preparations for future competitions, we’re working on a project in the Kirkland area centred around Abbot Hall Park.
Establishing a new group of volunteers and working with partners, we’re hoping to enhance the space through floral displays and landscapes.
