Kendal Town Council

In May 2019, John Bateson was appointed as new Town Crier for Kendal following the retirement of Richard Matthews.

John was born and brought up in Oxenholme, attending Kirkland Primary and Kendal Grammar School and working initially in tourism and later as a Senior Hospitality Manager before taking early retirement to care for his mother.

John was Mayor of Kendal in 2009-2010 and was a Town Councillor for eight years. He has also served as a Trustee to two local charities and is currently Chair of Kendal Civic Society. He conducts history walks and talks on the subject of Kendal history and is undertaking an advanced internet course on English local history.

You’ll see (and no doubt hear) John at various community and council events around the town, so give him a wave or stop to say hello.

Kendal Climate Change Citizens’ JuryHelp plan a response to climate change

In April 2019, Kendal Town Council declared a climate emergency. We now want to take the next step and find out what the public thinks.

A Citizens’ Jury will help do this by planning a response to climate emergency. Citizens Juries have been run all over the world to help figure out what to do about really big difficult problems.

In order to launch a Kendal Climate Change Citizens’ Jury we need to raise £6,000, so please help by clicking the button below and donating.
