Sign up, sign up!

Did you know that there is a Flood Warning Service for Kendal? This is very useful as it gives you chance to make arrangements to reduce the impact of any flooding on you and others in your home/business. If you are in one of the Flood Warning Areas, please do join others who have already registered for this free service. You will have received a letter from the Environment Agency inviting you to sign up for the Flood Warning Service in the past. If you don’t have the letter anymore, don’t worry as you can sign up for these warnings on-line via this link: https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings

If you would prefer to register by telephone, or need help during the registration process, you can call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 (this is not a premium rate number). If you do not have a property in the Flood Warning Areas but still wish to receive warnings, then you can do so by either of the above registration options.

You can receive warnings by telephone (landlines and mobiles), text, or e-mail, and all these options are free of charge.

Flooding is extremely distressing so please do take steps now so you are prepared should flooding happen in the future. As well as signing up for Flood Warnings:

You can easily create a Personal Flood Plan which will have a list of key actions and important telephone numbers. On receipt of your flood warning you can activate your plan and respond quickly. If you would like a copy of a Personal Flood Plan then you can find a copy via the online link above.

If you are interested in being part of a local Flood Action Group; helping to create a Community Flood Plan; or if you have any questions or queries, you can contact your local Environment Agency team by telephone on 02030 255793 (local rate) or by e-mail at CLfloodresilience@environment-agency.gov.uk

The Cumbria Community Messaging Service is a very useful public information service increasingly used by the Police, Environment Agency, District Council, and other public bodies. The Environment Agency uses it to send out messages when severe weather is expected. It’s a free service which you can sign up with at this link https://www.cumbriacommunitymessaging.co.uk/

Floods happen. Be prepared.
