Town Council begins Budget Planning for 2026
Kendal Town Council has begun its budget planning process for the next financial year (2026-2027). The Town Council draws the majority of its income from council taxpayers in the town, last year pulling in over £750,000, most of which is spent directly back into the town, improving neighbourhoods and the town centre and supporting community groups through grants. Initially budget plans are put forward by the Council’s individual committees – there are 7 of them with delegated powers to spend money on a range of things from hanging baskets to Christmas lighting, allotments to environmental improvement projects. The Council’s Management Committee oversees central costs such as employment, training, premises and insurance. Committees meet in October and November to make budget recommendations. These are reviewed by the Management Committee and its Working Group, who make a recommendation to a meeting of the Full Council in the new year. You can follow each Committee’s recommendations by looking at the agenda and minutes for each meeting – found here: Committee Membership – Kendal Town Council
